Private Neo-Assyrian Archives in the Vorderasiatisches Museum

SAAB0509

This sub-project of the Archival Texts of the Assyrian Empire (ATAE) [/atae/index.html] Project includes open-access versions of the 144 Neo-Assyrian texts (with English translations) edited in the following publications:

The SAAB 5 and 9 texts were discovered in thirteen different archives at the traditional Assyrian capital Assur (Qalat Sherqat). These 144 archival texts, all of which are written in the Neo-Assyrian dialect of Akkadian are arranged by archive. The archive designations follow Olof Pedersén, Archives and Libraries in the City of Assur: A Survey of the Material from the German Excavations Pt. 2, 1987.

The open-access editions of SAAB 5 and 9 presented here were adapted from the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus (NATC) database and the source publications by Jamie Novotny and Poppy Tushingham. As work on this group of texts is still in the early stages of preparation, please bear with us while we work on this material. Over the course of 2021, we will add English translations, as well as lemmatize the texts.

ATAE is a key component of the Archival Texts of the Middle East in Antiquity (ATMEA) sub-project of the LMU-Munich-based Munich Open-access Cuneiform Corpus Initiative [https://www.en.ag.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/research/mocci/index.html] (MOCCI; directed by Karen Radner and Jamie Novotny). Funding for the ATAE corpus project has been provided by LMU Munich and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (through the establishment of the Alexander von Humboldt Chair for Ancient History of the Near and Middle East).
