This sub-project of the Archival Texts of the Assyrian Empire (ATAE) [/atae/index.html] Project includes open-access versions of the 328 Neo-Assyrian texts (with English translations) edited in Veysel Donbaz and Simo Parpola's Neo-Assyrian Legal Texts in Istanbul (Studien zu den Assur-Texten 2), 2001. The StAT 2 texts were discovered in twenty-one different archives at the traditional Assyrian capital Assur (Qalat Sherqat). These 328 archival texts, all of which are written in the Neo-Assyrian dialect of Akkadian are arranged by archive. The archive designations follow Olof Pedersén, Archives and Libraries in the City of Assur: A Survey of the Material from the German Excavations Pt. 2, 1987, and Olof Pedersén, Archives and Libraries in the Ancient Near East 1500-300 B.C., a PDF of which can be downloaded here [http://uu.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:88568/FULLTEXT01.pdf].

The open-access editions of StAT 2 presented here are published with the kind permission of Simo Parpola, who kindly provided the English translations of this rich source material. The transliterations were adapted from the Neo-Assyrian Text Corpus (NATC) database by Jamie Novotny. The ATAE/StAT 2 project intends to be an Oracc-based adaptation of this 2001 book. Since no copies or photographs of these Neo-Assyrian texts have been published, we will not yet lemmatize the StAT 2 corpus in the hope that checking the original tablets will eventually become possible.
