Ashurnasirpal II 2004

(1) To the god Adad, canal inspector of heaven and netherworld, who sends abundant rain, who provides pasturage and watering for the peoples in all of the communities, who provides temple shares and offerings for the gods his brothers, canal inspector of rivers, who brings prosperity to the (four) quarters (of the world), the compassionate god to whom it is good to pray, who resides in the city Guzāna, great lord, his lord:

(8b) Adda-itʾī, governor of the city Guzānu, son of Šamaš-nūrī, (who was) also governor of the city Guzāna, has devoted and dedicated (this object) for his life so that his days might be long, his years be many, for the well-being of his family, seed, and people, to tear out illness from his body, so that his (text: “my”) prayers may be heeded, (and) so that his (text: “my”) utterances may be acceptable (to the god Adad).

(15b) Whoever comes later, may he restore its dilapidated section(s) and re-establish my (inscribed) name. Whoever removes my (inscribed) name and puts his (own) name, may the god Adad, the warrior, be his adversary.

(19) Monument of Adda-itʾī, governor of the cities Guzāna, Sikāni, and Zarānu. So that his throne might be protected, his reign be long, (and) his utterances be pleasing to gods and peoples, he made this monument better than before (and) erected it (text: his monument) before the god Adad, the one who resides in the city Sikāni, the lord of the Ḫābūr River.

(26b) Whoever erases my name from the furnishings of the temple of the god Adad, my lord, may the god Adad, my lord, not accept his bread (and) water (offerings). May the goddess Šala, his lady, also not accept (30) his bread (and) water (offerings). May he sow, but not reap. May he sow 1,000 (measures but) gain a profit of only a single seah. May 100 (of his) ewes be unable to nourish a single lamb. May 100 (of his) cows be unable to nourish a single calf. May 100 mothers be unable to nourish a single baby. (35) May 100 bakers be unable to fill a single oven. May he be a garbage picker who picks over refuse dumps. May (the diseases called) diʾu-disease, plaugue, and anxiety not cease in his land.
