(1) Shalmaneser (I), appointee of the god Enlil, vice-regent of (the god) Aššur, son of Adad-nārārī (I), appointee of the god Enlil, vice-regent of (the god) Aššur, son of Arik-dīn-ili, (who was) also appointee of the god Enlil (and) vice-regent of (the god) Aššur.

(5b) At that time, (as for) Eḫursagkurkurra, the temple of Aššur, my lord, which the kings, my ancestors, had built since distant days, that temple was destroyed by fire. I cleared away the temple of (the god) Aššur, my lord, in its entirety, removed the earth (beneath it, and) reached its foundation pit. I laid its foundations with hard limestone, just like bedrock. I made the temple of (the god) Aššur, my lord, much larger than before.

(21) (As for) the towers of the Kalkal Gate and the towers (that one uses) when entering from the Step Gate to the forecourt of the god Nunnamnir, I built these two towers, (both of) which had not been built before, as an addition. I greatly enlarged the forecourt of the god Nunnamnir more than before.

(31b) I built the temple of Aššur, my lord, in its entirety from its foundations to its crenellations. I placed the gods who dwell in Ekur, my lords, inside it. Moreover, I deposited my commemorative inscription (therein).

(39) May a future ruler return my inscribed name to its place. The god Aššur will (then) listen to his prayers.

(42) (As for) the one who removes my inscription and my name, may the god Aššur, my lord, overthrow his kingship (and) make his name (and) his seed disappear from the land.
