(1) Šamšī-Adad (I), king of the world, builder of the temple of the god Aššur, pacifier of the land between the Tigris River and the Euphrates River, by the command of the god Aššur, who loves him, (and the one) whom the gods Anu and Enlil called by name for greatness among the kings who came before (him).

(18) (As for) the temple of the god Enlil, which Erišum (I), the son of Ilu-šūma, had built, it had become dilapidated and I abandoned it. Then, I built the temple of the god Enlil, my lord, the fearful dais, the large chapel, the seat of the god Enlil, my lord, (all of) which were methodically made by the skilled work of the building trade in my city, Aššur.

(37) I roofed th(at) temple with (beams of) cedar. In (its) rooms, I erected doors of cedar, whose stars were (made with) silver and gold stars. (I placed) silver, gold, lapis lazuli, (and) carnelian (under) the walls of the temple. I mixed cedar resin, good quality oil, honey, and ghee into (its) mortar. I methodically made the temple of the god Enlil, my lord, and I called the temple of the god Enlil, my lord, (that was) inside my city, Aššur, Eamkurkurra, “the Temple of the Wild Bull of the Lands.”

(59) When I built the temple of the god Enlil, my lord, the prices in my city, Aššur, (were): two kor of barley could be purchased for one shekel of silver; fifteen minas of wool for one shekel of silver; and two seahs of oil for one shekel of silver, according to the prices of my city, Aššur.

(73) At that time, inside my city, Aššur, I received the tribute of the kings of Tukriš and of the king of the Upper Land. I set up my great name and my monumental inscription in the land Lebanon, (which is) on the shore of the Great Sea.

(88) When th(at) temple becomes dilapidated, may one of the kings, my descendants, (when) he renovates th(at) temple, anoint my foundation inscriptions and my monumental inscriptions with oil, make an offering, and return them to their places.

(99) (As for) the one who does not anoint my foundation inscriptions and my monumental inscriptions with oil, does not make an offering, (and) does not return them to their places, (but) instead alters my monumental inscriptions, removes my name and writes his (own) name (or) buries (my monumental inscriptions) in the earth (or) throws (them) into the water, may the gods Šamaš, Enlil, Adad, and Šarru-mātim destroy the offspring of that king. May he and his army not prevail in the face of a king who opposes him. May the god Nergal take his treasure and the treasure of his land away by force. May the goddess Ištar, the lady of battle, break his weapon and the weapons of his army. May the god Sîn, the god of my head, forever be an evil demon to him.
