People, Gods & Places

These are the names that appear in the inscriptions. Unless otherwise noted, all of the names are of Akkadian or Sumerian origin. The forms of the names match those found in the project's QPN Glossary [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/babylon4/cbd/qpn/onebigfile.html] and, therefore, always appear without long vowels and usually according to their ancient (not modern) name.

Ahu-bani (person)
Father of Kaššu-bel-zeri PGP .

Babili (place)
Ancient Babylon, the most important city of Babylonia, near the modern city of Hilla.

E

Ea (deity)
The god of wisdom, magic, and incantations.
Eulmaš-šakin-šumi (person)
"Eulmaš is the establisher of the name": King of Babylon PGP  (r. 1004-988 BC). For further details, see this ruler's essentials page.

Gula (deity)
Sumerian "Great One", goddess of healing, identified with the Goat Star (Lyra).

K

Kaššu-bel-zeri (person)
Governor of the Sealand, possibly during the time of the Bazi Dynasty rulers.

N

Ninurta-kudurri-uṣur (person)
"O Ninurta, protect the boundary!": King of Babylon PGP  (r. 987-985 BC). For further details, see this ruler's essentials page.
Ninurta-ušallim (person)
A šangû-priest and official in Babylon PGP .

U

Uruk (place)
A city in southern Babylonia, legendary home of the hero Gilgameš; Biblical Erech, modern Warka.
Uṣur-amassu (deity)
A goddess of Uruk PGP .

X

X-Adad (person)
An owner of a field, possibly near Uruk PGP .
X-Marduk (person)
Possibly a provincial governor in the late eleventh or tenth centuries BC.
