During the three and a half centuries between the Elamite Dynasty (984-979 BC) and the Neo-Babylonian Dynasty (625-539 BC), Babylonia was ruled by numerous men whose dynastic and/or family affiliation is either unknown or uncertain, as well as by several Assyrian kings or individuals (including members of their family) appointed by them. Because the dynastic affiliation of the rulers of Babylonia during this span of time (ca. 978-626 BC) is often not clear in extant textual sources (including King List A [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/kinglists/kinglista/index.html]), some scholars tentatively treat the rulers of this period as belonging to a single dynasty, although in reality it comprises at least five different dynasties; the most prominent are the so-called "E" Dynasty, the "Baltil" Dynasty, and the "Ḫanigalbat" Dynasty.

One hundred and two Akkadian royal inscriptions, twenty-four Sumerian official texts, and one bilingual Akkadian-Sumerian inscription are extant for the period of the Uncertain Dynasties. These are known from approximately 400 clay, metal, and stone objects housed in over 30 museum and private collections throughout the world. This website presents the attested 127 royal inscriptions of the rulers of Babylon and Assyria who held direct or indirect control of southern Iraq from 978 BC to 626 BC, together with a few resources and materials for their study and their historical context.

RIBo, a sub-project of the Official Inscriptions of the Middle East in Antiquity (OIMEA) Project, publishes in a single place easily accessible and annotated (lemmatized) editions of Akkadian and Sumerian royal inscriptions from Babylonia that were composed between 1157 BC and 64 BC. At present, this RIBo sub-project ("Babylon 6") is a work-in-progress. Please be patient with us while we prepare this content. The corpus of edited texts presently includes:
