About the Project

This open-access sub-project of the Royal Inscriptions of Babylonia online (RIBo) Project [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/] is intended to present up-to-date individual witness transliterations for all of the objects bearing an official Akkadian or Sumerian inscription of a ruler of Babylon from the Second Dynasty of Isin (1157-1026 BC) to the Seleucid Dynasty (305-64 BC), including the Babylonian inscriptions of the Assyrian kings who held authority over the land of Sumer and Akkad during the eighth and seventh centuries BC. The material presented here supplements the fully lemmatized and translated editions and score transliterations of composite texts included on other RIBo [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/] sub-projects (presently only "Babylon 7" [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/babylon/index.html] and "Babylon 7" Scores [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/bab7scores/index.html]).

Further details about scope of RIBo [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/abouttheproject/index.html] can be found on that site's "About the Project" page; click on the above link to open that page.

Sponsors and timing

This website was created as part of the research project Official Inscriptions of the Middle East in Antiquity (OIMEA), whose funding is provided by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (through the establishment of the Alexander von Humboldt Chair for Ancient History of the Near and Middle East [http://www.ag.geschichte.uni-muenchen.de/lehrstuehle/ls_radner/index.html]) and Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (Historisches Seminar - Abteilung Alte Geschichte). The project began in late 2015 and Phase 1 of the website was made available in early 2016. The RIBo Sources sub-project of RIBo [http://oracc.museum.upenn.edu/ribo/] is intended to be a long term endeavor since there is much work to do and finish before we have reached our primary objects. Please bear with us as we expand, improve, and refine our content.
