(For the eponyms of years from 698 to 649, see here the Assyrian Eponym List. Composite text)

B5 is the only source for the eponym chronicles of years 858-847. Denoting a king's reign by anticipating it as with a header ("eponyms of RN son of RN king of Assyria" - ruling-line - list) is known only from this tablet.

The years of the eponym chronicles from 841 to 829 are covered only by sources B4 and B10.

See the scores of the eponym list for this eponym.

According to I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade (Or 67, p. 249), the Eponym Chronicle B4 has an error (caused by "graphy of two preceding lines) in designating the province of Raṣappa to Ninurta-kibsī-uṣur. This man appears on his own Ashur stela as šāqiu rabiu amd governor of Naʾiri, Andi, Sinabu, Suhna, Mallani, and Alzi, which is probably correct (for the distinction between šāqiu rabiu and rab šāqê, see Mattila SAAS 11, pp. 47-48.)

This edition follows the guidelines of transcription system given by Parpola in PNA (p. xxiiff.). Therefore, six divine names (Ištar, Ninurta, Aššur, Ea, Ninlil, and Enlil) are lemmatized according to their Neo-Assyrian reading (Issār, Inūrta, Aššūr, Aia, Mulissu, and Illil; see evidence for these forms in PNA p. xxv-xxvii). Hoewever, as also in PNA, the translation maintains the classic reading, guaranteeing the user with the widest possible range of readings. The grapheme <i>, which is frequently used for writing the semivowel [y], has been consistently transcribed as i in PNA (or j, when used as a glide after i); this rule is applied for the lemmatization, but also in this case (and this time differently than in PNA) the translation keeps [y]. As an example for what here explained: Ninurta-ilāya (a name common to five eponym years -- 863, 837, 801, 736, and 722) is lemmatized as Inūrta-ilāʾī and translated as Ninurta-ilāya.

For the assignment of the title rāb šāqê to Aššur-būnāya-uṣur for this year (and for 816, as well), see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

For a possible assignment of the title turtānu to Iahalu for this year (and for 821), see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

For the assignment of the title nāgir ēkalli to Bēl-būnāya for this year, see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

For the assignment of the title turtānu to Iaḫalu for this year (and possibly for 824, as well), see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

For the assignment of the title nāgir ēkalli to Bēl-dān for this year, see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

In source B4: 24', the last two signs read -šum-me.

For the assignment of the title rāb šāqê to Aššur-būnāya-uṣur for this year (and for 825, as well), see I.L. Finkel and J.E. Reade, Iraq 57 (1995) 168-169.

Sources have both Media and KUR man-a.a

Possibly identical with the eponym of the year 772 BC.

The eponym-list tradition covering the eponymates from Ṣil-Ištar to Ninurta-nāṣir (783) is subject to several variations, and there is no secure way to indicate the most reliable manuscript; see, Brinkman, JCS 30 (1978) 173-175. Variations include two main recensions: a long one with six eponyms and a short one with five. With the exception of Ṣil-Ištar at the beginning, all the names in this segment of the list are subject to variation in the form: for example, Nabû-šarru-uṣur (786) is substituted by Balāṭu in A3 i 7' (where appears later before Ninurta-nāṣir) and [...]-uballiṭ in B10 r 18. The range of eponymates with variation is larger by one, if we take into account the Eponym Chronicles, whose manuscript B10 has a repetition of Adad-mušammer at line r 22, where we would expect Marduk-šarru-uṣur (see below). Please, click on the line numbers of this composite text and of the Eponym List composite text to see the relative scores.

Eponym Chronicle B10 r 20 has Marduk-šarru-uṣūur.

Eponym Chronicle B10 r 22 has Adad-mušammer.

Previously read Nergal-ēreš (see, PNA p. 981).

This is a crucial event for the calculation of absolute chronolgiers in Mesopotamia and the ancient Near East. It has been identified with an almost complete solar eclipse occured on 15th of June 763 BC, and it works as anchor for the compilation of a patchwork of sources - including the eponym lists and the Assyrian and Babylnoian king lists, among others - which allows for a fairly grounded reconstruction of years' succession from the reign of Adad-nērāri II (911-891 BC), going down across the centuries, and up to our age through Ptolemy's "Canon" (see, R. Pruzinzsky, Mesopotamian Chronology of the 2nd Millennium B.C., 2009, p. 17.)

Previously read Nabû-mukīn-aḫi (see, PNA p. 840).

For this name as a form of Ammi-hātî, see PNA p. 104, with previous bibliography.

B6 r. 1-2 (see scores) has "The nobles ... [(...)] against the city Kummuḫu [(...)]."

Entries for years 702 and 701 have no sources for the Eponym Chronicles. The reconstruction of the lines is guessed on the basis of the Eponym Lists.
