Shalmaneser II (1030-1019 BC) was a son of Ashurnasirpal I [http:/riao/thekingdomofassyria1114884bc/ashurnasirpali/index.html] (1049-1031 BC). According to the Khorsabad King List [http:/riao/kinglists/assyriankinglist/khorsabadlist/index.html], in which he appears as the ninety-third ruler of Ashur, he reigned for 12 years and was succeeded by his son Aššur-nārārī IV [http:/riao/thekingdomofassyria1114884bc/ashurnarariiv/index.html] (1018-1013 BC) (Grayson 1986, 113). It is known that he made an endowment for the Ashur temple at Ashur. Some scholars also attribute a literary text to his reign (Grayson 1991, 124). Other texts mentioning Shalmaneser but with no further indications which would allow to define which king with this name it is have been edited either under Shalmaneser I [http:/riao/thekingdomofassyria13631115bc/shalmaneseri/index.html] or Shalmaneser III [http:/riao/theassyrianempire883745bc/shalmaneseriii/index.html].
